July 2013--Road trip and Ada's birthday

We took an epic road trip in July. We started with Dinosaur National Monument in Vernal and then made our way to Colorado

Vernal Temple

Dinosaur National Monument

Steamboat Springs, CO. We stopped at a cute candy shop

Rocky Mountain National Park. Gorgeous

Denver Zoo

Casa Bonita. Apparently Tyler's family was road trippin' and stopped here the day before his 7th birthday, so he only saw it fitting that we went the day before Ada's 7th. This was our second time eating there. The food is crappy but the atmosphere is fun with cliff divers and activities for kids

We stopped by the Denver Temple on the way to our hotel

Ada woke up to seven balloons in the room the next morning

We had some big surprises for the girls on this day. We'd been planning them for weeks, but didn't tell the girls anything, even after we got to the mall. First, we went to the American Girl Store and let Ada and Kate pick out a doll for their birthdays (we already knew which ones they'd pick)

Next we went to Claire's so Ada could get her ears pierced. She was thrilled! When we got there she said, "My heart is beating so fast!" She did great! No tears were shed

We ate lunch at the food court before continuing on our way. Kate with Kit

Ada with Saige

We next stopped at Great Sand Dunes National Park and climbed to the top of a dune. It was hard work! It was also really windy. We let Ada open a few small gifts from her sisters up there

At our next hotel we sang Happy Birthday to Ada and had cupcakes. I really wanted to find a good cupcake place in Denver but Tyler didn't want to drive out of the way, so Hostess was the best we could find in the small town :s

We spent the next day at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It was our second time here as well

Sleepy girls

We stopped in Grand Junction for dinner before heading home. It was a long trip with lots of driving, but we had a great time!

Holy cow I cannot get over those scenic pictures! You guys visited so many beautiful parks. I love all the family pictures with all contrasting backdrops, so neat! Also what a treat for Kate and Ada to have celebrated their bdays on the trip and to top it off they got American Dolls, woohoo! What a wonderful road trip!!!

I see they still have the little flag so you can get more food. It is a fun place but you nailed the food review. Love all the places you go as a family, they will remember the fun times.
